Privacy notice

Who is responsible
This is the personal website of Jonathan Claessens (Bruges, Belgium). I am responsible for the personal data described in this notice.
You can reach me at jonathanclaessens34@gmail.com.
What this website does (and doesn't do)
This website is a static CV and portfolio. It has no accounts, contact form, comments, analytics, advertising or embedded third-party content. Fonts, images and scripts are served from this website itself.
I do not use cookies for analytics, advertising or tracking. The links to GitHub and LinkedIn lead to other websites: once you click them, their own privacy policies apply. I do not sell personal data and I do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Data that is processed
- Visit data: when you open a page, your IP address, browser and device details, the page requested and the time are processed by my hosting provider to deliver and secure the website. Purpose: running and protecting the site. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Emails you send me: your name, email address and the content of your message. Purpose: replying to your question, job or project enquiry. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering you, or steps taken at your request before a contract (Art. 6(1)(f) and (b) GDPR).
- Security cookie: my hosting provider Cloudflare places one cookie, cf_clearance, to protect the website against automated (bot) traffic. It is used only for that purpose and expires after about one year. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the website secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Who receives data
Data may be passed on to:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States): hosting, content delivery, security and domain registration. Cloudflare states that it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and, where needed, EU standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the EU.
- Google (Gmail): my email provider, which receives the emails you send me. Google states that it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses when data leaves the EU.
How long data is kept
I do not download or keep server logs myself. Cloudflare keeps technical logs only as long as it needs them to deliver and secure its service, under its own policies. It does not publish a fixed period.
I keep emails only as long as needed to handle your message, normally no more than 12 months after our last contact, unless we start working together or you ask me to keep them.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask me, free of charge, for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability. Email me at jonathanclaessens34@gmail.com; I will answer within one month.
Right to object: the processing described above is based on legitimate interest, so you can object to it at any time for reasons related to your particular situation.
Good to know
You are not required to give me any personal data. If you do not email me, I simply cannot reply to you.
I do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

If you are unhappy with how I handle your data, please contact me first. You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données):
